Bouncing Bobbers

What kid wouldn’t love catching blue gills after their fishing rod was barely cast into the inviting clear water so cleverly colored by biodegradable aqua dye? In the water a scant few minutes, the bobber is bouncing under the water, quick as a wink. Even 60 year old Grammy Judy is squealing with delight. OK, so what if she is a whuss. Annie, with a little diligent teasing, puts worms on the line. And what if the line gets tangled because Grammy is winding the line in her usual left-handed backward manner. Problem-solving, thoughtful, ever-thinking “Aunt Annie” retrieves a left-handed fishing rod! Grammy is in heaven hauling up her you-would-have-thought-it-was-a-marlin prized bluegill bounty. She loves it as “Aunt Annie” lovingly rescues each fish and launches them back into their floating freedoms. Funny how those bluegills come right up to the shore as if to tease, “You can’t catch me!”. Oh, but we did!
Speaking of freedom, the little minnows have it made, their tiny mouths protected from all those big shiny hooks. You can almost hear them traveling in their collective crowd, cajoling the bluegills, “We may be tiny weeny, but we own this pond!”

Positive Psychology Is About Savoring Life!

The $27,000 “big front end digger thing machine” (obviously a distant cousin related to the tall, skinny lopper thing “Aunt Annie”" brings to Grammy’s to cut off branches”) are honored to serve as a hitching post. The trio of real horses in the paddock no doubt feel very important to deserve a 27K much needed “fence post”. They rationalize that “Aunt Annie” wants them to be safe. The real truth is they are irritated as all get out. Keep Reading…

“Aunt Annie’s” Welcoming Porch

Look, its Grandpa Ken relaxing on the Annie’s shady porch. He is sucking up the pleasure, like my garden in the rain after a two-week draught. The big bowl of delicious cheese is calling his name. Fresh, squeaky cheese curds and string cheese always tastes better with a backdrop of busy kids petting barking dogs and purring cats.
Melonhead, the squawking parrot, decides to make his presence known. Sprung from his Navaho blanket-covered cage, he enjoys
his brief freedom by clawing his way around Grandpa’s head. Looks like Melonhead has a mustache addiction.
The welcoming porch is just an hors d’oeurve preparing us for the main course, the inside of Aunt Annie’s cabin itself. Watch out great room, here we come!
As we enter the serene sound of geese honking overhead welcome us. Even in its largesse that big room is calmly welcoming. The enormous log beams, too large for Grammy to get her arms around, stand guard in all their majestic beauty, power, and strength. They frame the spectacular stone fireplace, quite honored to hold the reigns of a stellar hand-carved horse. He prances in full glory high above the homey great room below. Loving his new home in the woods, this former city steed knows he is lucky. Luxuriating in his new lofty perch he views the brilliant turquoise pond through the window. He also naughtily neighs at the sight of Aunt Annie’s makeshift horse corral. This bears some further explaining.

A Visit To “Aunt Annie’s” Cabin

If you had all the colors of the rainbow in your back pocket, what would you paint as a perfect day with your grand kids?
Our two cute and inquisitive little grand daughters are joyfully awaiting a special moment. For the very first time, they are going to meet their mysterious “Aunt Annie” of creature/critter fame.
Each summer Annie generously drops off large pails of wiggly tadpoles that keep the girls mesmerized and fascinated for hours. She researched and thoughtfully printed out “How to Identify Your Frog and Russian Tortoise” instructions. Annie is the thorough and caring sort.
They knew her kindness already, but only by proxy. Their beloved pet Russian tortoise, Gregorski, Greg for short, was rescued from the mouth of one of Aunt Annie’s overly exuberant dogs. When Annie asked “Would the girls want a tortoise?”, I knew that terrapin was going to truck his way into their town! Terrifically tame tortoise in toe, and armed with food and care directions, Annie skillfully organized the “No, Judy, it isn’t a turtle” transfer. The girls wondered why an unknown lady would bestow upon them their first beloved pet.
The colors will never fade. It will be the kind of day whose freeze-framed photos will bring a gentle smile to my face and hopefully to all our faces.

Self Care…A Woman’s Oxymoron?

Happy-Woman

My dear friend in Argentina, Gayle, and I were discussing women and life balance. OK, so it was the middle of the night. I couldn’t sleep. Her emails offer powerful thinking question, gifts that always make me think of Christmas. Lucky me. I love our chats. She makes my dendrites stand at attention and salute her creativity.
