Winter Just Croaked and Spring Is A Bloomin’

What strengths pop up when you think spring? Hope and optimism? Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence? Gratitude?
This week, several friends emailed me, delighting in their garden gazing. Like discovering buried treasure, their eyes eagerly soaked up sight of their first colorful crocuses.
This is one pure joy I eagerly await every year. The Wisconsin chill keeps them frozen in suspended animation for it seems like forever. I have been known to dig in the snow hoping to get just one glimpse of green. Praying that those tiny little shoots signaling spring would grace my grateful eyes.
No sign of crocuses popping up in your patch of happiness?
Then try some imaginative visualization:
- Take a walk down memory lane. Remember where you first glimpsed those persistent purple blooms. Memory a little fuzzy? Skip on over to beauty in everything for a fresh look. Then skip right back.
- You are in the middle of a brisk, healthy walk when you spot a bright blue-violet haze up ahead. Curious, you decide to check it out. You have stumbled upon a sun drenched, vibrant patch of crocuses and hyacinths.
- You are in the kitchen spicing up a new authentic Paella recipe with fresh saffron threads. (You recently learned that saffron is actually the little thread at the center of a small purple crocus, where the pollen catches and develops.)
- Breathe deep…do you smell the hopeful, intoxicating scent of fresh spring flowers?
- Smile and gratefully savor your visualization memories.
So crocuses or no crocuses, count your blessings wherever you are. Appreciate beauty and family and fun in the sun. Kick up your heels when you see your first crocus.
And please send me a photo! Vicarious crocuses or real, I will love them and you for your kindness.
