Have You Hugged Your Friend Lately?

This has been a great day. I have answered emails from the far corners of the world. Easter well-wishes, Passover menu memories, and April Fool’s stories filled my Easter basket with colorful goodies.
And I still can’t believe my best friend, Cheryl’s daughter, Shelby, put on her Facebook that she was pregnant. I bought it hook, line, and sinker. I had her wedding planned here in PV within the next 3 weeks! I was shaking so hard and could barely breathe. Then the whammy, “April Fools!” Oh is she going to get it.
Cheryl called today so we could map out our strategy for Mom at Easter. Cheryl is going to Mom’s assisted living apartment and hauling her and her wheelchair to Easter dinner. Mom protests that it is too much trouble, but Cheryl and I are on a mission. Cheryl’s family is Mom’s family. And mine. Cheryl and I grew up two houses down from each other. We built go-carts, rode bikes to the far corners of the country, went crabbing, spit watermelon seeds at each other at the beach, and have been through 6 decades together. The two of us are a force to be reckonned with and we don’t take no for an answer.
Like many best friends we are very different, yet so alike. And she is the first one I turn to if I am not sure what to do. Her critical thinking skills and humor kick mine to the curb every time. And she puts her nickle down better than anyone I know. Courageous no fear! She will give her opinion. Can you imagine how wonderful it is to get off the phone and feel so much better about life? All because you someone who would authentically shoot you off the truth? Oh, I so hope you can identify.
Friends. What would we do without them?
Connections, belongingness, and true camaraderie.
Gold and silver treads woven into your life tapestry.
Funny, I started writing about a whole different topic and this friendship thing just popped out. Cheryl being always so kind to Mom won out over everything else.
So go call your friend, or give them a hug.
Here’s mine to you.
Not so tight?
OK!
But I really could squeeze you silly.
