Work Satisfaction – Sands of Time Style

Work Satisfaction – Sands of Time Style

© 2010 Dr. Judy Krings

You’ve heard me talk about “Play” and “Work” and how both are four letter words. And how will you know when you have changed your perspective? To make work, or maybe some of it, play, instead of a job? And which one do you choose?

What is work, anyway?

  • Is it your job?
  • Do you do it for money?
  • Is it a chore?
  • Is it a joy? Is is a pain?
  • Is it satisfying?
  • Do you appreciate its opportunity?
  • Just what do you take away from it? What do you add?

OK, you get the picture. Work is whatever you tell yourself it is.

Wonder what your brain would conjure up if you made a list of all the benefits your work offered you. Not just money, health insurance, and a pension plan. (Not that all of us who have this are not thanking the heavens in gratitude for all these Godsends in this day and age!) But what are the gifts to your soul. Like exercising your love of learning and team work strengths. Or getting your creativity juices flowing.

I love this quote:

“In work, the greatest satisfaction lies – the satisfaction of stretching yourself, using your abilities and making them expand, and knowing that you have accomplished something that could have been done only by your unique apparatus. This is really the center of life, and those who never orient themselves in this direction are missing more than they ever know.”

Kenneth Alsop (1920-1973)

You are a work of art yourself. Uniquely human you… Leaving your footprint of accomplishment in the sands of time. So amazing.

And don’t worry. I’ll make sure you don’t get these treasured footprints near the ocean. Not a chance some pesky wave will erase your diligent, wondrous work. I have a deal going with the universe.

My friends, well, what they work for matters.
They seize opportunities.
And their tenacious effort lasts.
The sands of time has nothing on them.
They love life, even work.

Work and Love…there I go again with those 4-letter words.

Work is taking a product of the mind and making it a product of the hand. It is turning an idea into a reality — even if the idea is clean dishes. It is the ability to shape and direct the environment. That’s why a lot of people feel stuck in a j-o-b. It’s mindless activity or activity to turn someone else’s idea into reality, an idea that doesn’t capture the imagination of the j-o-b holder. Work is one of the amazing abilities that defines mankind.
