Fun and Freedom. Do you Have Enough?

Lucky me. My Delaware best friends, Cheryl and Bob, treated me to one of the most relaxing times I’ve had in ages.
We were celebrating their niece Hannah’s 8th grade graduation. Creative party planner extraordinaire, Cheryl came up with a dandy celebration. Three vans full of family and friends caravanned to Annapolis, Maryland. Gleefully, we loaded our too-full-from-Fuddrucker’s-butts (a great hamburger chain) on board a gorgeously-outfitted 74′ sailboat.
Our sailboat boasted an all-guy crew. To spice up the adventure, we raced a sailboat identical to ours but manned, oops, I mean womaned, by an all-gal crew. Jockeying into starting position was a race in itself. But please, don’t ask if we won. I was a gal on the guys’ sailboat. Let’s just say estrogen blew a stronger wind that day.
But our guy crew was terrific. And our 11 celebrating sailors? Of course, we were totally well-behaved. Can you see my Pinocchio nose growing? Yep, after the rum punch kicked in, the rowdiest group award had our name engraved on it. I bet the crew was thinking the zoo had never let out so many wild and crazy critters.
As the sun set, the rippling waves reflected our sunshine smiles. We saluted the gorgeous Naval Academy as we sailed past JFK’s sailboat.
Freedom and beauty personified. My top values. And gratitude for wind, rainbow-colored sailboats, and Chesapeake Bay Bridge vistas.
Sailing is so letting go, the wind whipping you along.
