What’s Your View?

Giving to others helps you grow. Remember Dr. Christopher Peterson reminding you if you give to others, you spiritually benefit from that gift to them more than they do? So eloquently he simply said, “Other people matter.”
The window you give from always becomes smaller than the window you receive from.
I was in a group or class the other day and wrote this phrase on a post-it note. Its meaning gave me a huge pause for positivity. I surely wish my ADD brain would have remembered the source. I didn’t, so I will use my self-regulation, forgiveness, kindness and gratitude strengths all in one fell swoop. I will let go of the, “Judy, you should have written it down!”
I remember way back in the late 70′s, I went to a presentation masterfully delivered by famed rational emotive psychologist, Dr. Albert Ellis. In all his noteworthy tell-it-like-it-is glory, he yelled, and I kid you not, “Should-hood is sh–hood!” And “Quit ‘must-erbating! CHOOSE and get rid of all the ‘Must-do’s, have-to’s, and ought-to’s'”. You could hear jaws drop. I loved every minute of it. He touched my spirit and velcroed positivity on my welcomed venture into psychology private practice.
So instead of kickin’ myself in the butt (OK, I admit I did that once before I got myself straightened around), I re-frame and savor this phrase. I hope the author will pop up or some sweet soul will give me the exact quote and author. If not, I will enjoy it regardless. Yep, I know I could Google it, but asking you is more fun!
I’ll show you mine if you will show me yours. That is, the view from your favorite window, silly. Here’s my view from our bedroom window. I took it the other day to share with mom. I send her photos several times a week. She may be 91, but her views expand with photos. She deserves to see more than her assisted living windows offer. Ever the optimist, wheelchair bound or not, she will tell you she loves the trees and green grass and hanging baskets of flowers she sees.
When you see this photo, you know my secret. Why I sit on my bed to do anything other than computer work. My view is priceless. And I echo one of Mom’s favorite phrases whenever we traveled, “I have to pinch myself to believe I am really here. Gratitude with gulls racing by.
Doesn’t the word, “Ahhh” or “Peace” come to mind? Water. I need to see it. Like taking my vitamins it keeps me well. Isn’t that a bizarre connection? The stuff my brain pipes up with sometimes slays me.
OK, your turn. Which window motivates you to share? Or helps you feel free?
Knowing you, bet they all do. Your vistas and talents are so never-ending.
Your very own, “Ahhh…
Sharing is caring.
