What do 3 crickets, no internet access, and thank God, an extra long telephone cord, all have in common? L-O-V-E! Add to that a strengths’ cocktail of humor, courage (I do not like crickets!), and patience.
Remember that old song, “I fought the law and the law won?” Well, for a while the chirpy cricket critters in Mom’s hospital bathroom won. (Can you believe it?) They eluded my weapon-worthy sandal. I’m not a killer of critters for the most part, but no way they were going to add germs to Mom’s get well space.
Wham! One down. Two to go. The second beat me for a while, but soon he winged his way to cricket heaven. The third was a doozy. I got him while sitting on the tiled bathroom floor during a sweet gal’s coaching session. She cracked up laughing. I’d warned her ahead of time not to jump if she heard me squeal or bang the bugger. She said the image of mini-me holed up with shoe in hand was the best part of her day. It lifted her spirits and helped her be grateful she wasn’t the one sick. She has followed this blog so feels like she knows Mom and said it made her feel special to send Mom her love.
Life challenges. All the opportunities the universe magically presents us to consider.
What I do know is Mom is doing better and should be released back to Assisted Living soon. Whew!
Yep, I can hear them. Mom can, too. Your prayers and smiles of hope. What’s it like to know you made Mom smile?
Love backatcha in spades.
And can I borrow yours if those critters chirp up again?
