Hope. Holding onto it. Old age. No matter how hard you try, you can’t plan for it.
Thanks to all of you who have emailed, called, and tried to IM or Skype me while I have been here with Mom. I haven’t answered or my replies have been sparse, as this time with Mom is irreplaceable. She fell twice during my visit. We’ve had the trauma unit visit, and some stitches, but she is back at assisted living. She wanted me to thank all of you who have blessed her with your prayers.
And she sent you this message, her exact words:
Do what you can when you can. If you get a chance, go for it. When I look back on my life, my favorite things were my gardening and getting to travel all over the world. I was a farm girl who grew up with nothing much. But I went to school and saved my money. Hard to part with it, but what I remember best is the times I did the things I dreamed of as a kid and never thought I’d do. Judy had to put on some convincing to get me to go, but I did! Now I look back and smile. I see all the push pins in my big world map and I am happy.
I have lived my life, and it has been a good one. I am not depressed, just wearing out. I am grateful to do what I can, but I can do so little. So go for it, whatever it is, while you can.
It amazes me, Internet friendships. I can’t quite imagine it. I love hearing about you from all over the world. I tell Judy I shake my head to know you care. I am not the “tell you I love you” type gal, but please know that I quietly count my blessings for hearing about you. I don’t know you all, but I appreciate your concern and prayers. They mean so much.
Look at your VIA, Values in Action, or other strengths’ lists again.
What are you putting off?
What plans can you make and see to fruition so when your life is near the end, you can remember and smile?
