“Oops! Have You Dialed 911 By Mistake?!”

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Do you believe things happened for a reason? I do. Wait till you hear this one.

God willing and Mom staying healthy, two friends and I are soon off to Nepal
and Tibet.  I can’t wait to see my Nepalese adopted son, Hari, and his family.

Bummer is having a 11-hour overnight layover in New Delhi, India, with very
few hotels nearby. My travel partner, Kim, learned of sleeping pods at the
airport. Cool contraptions equipped with Wifi, TV, a cot and mini frig. She
sent me the link, but the information was sketchy. It was pull my hair out time.
My computer wasn’t my friend. But, Ah Ha!

I scouted out an information # to call. Goody. I dialed the number. Imagine
my shock whenmy “Oh no!” ears heard, “Manitowoc Police. You dialed 911.
What is your emergency?” OMG!  Then it hit me. The overseas first #’s were
91-124. The dispatcher was not a happy camper. I apologized profusely.
I begged her not to waste taxpayers’ money and send a squad car, but she
had her rules. Egg on my face big time.

But that’s when the fun began. As the officer exited his police car, a smile of
recognition rapidly spread across our faces. We had met years before.
“Hey, Jason Wilterdink!” We chatted and compared notes. He has just published
a book, too, “Healthy Lifestyles for Law Enforcement.” Stress kills cops, and
Jason shoots them a round of stress management techniques. I talked about
my new book,”Photo Adventures in Cuba ~ Unlock Your Power of Positivity.”
(http://www.coachingpositivity.com). I told him about the free Values in
Action Survey (VIA) coaching positivity strengths. I suggested he use it to
help the police officers he instructs.

Was I embarrassed? You bet. But look what ensued. A win-win.

Generous friend, Annie, blessed me with these lovely brown eggs, the very first
eggs her new hens laid. A little cream cheese added more savor to the flavor.
Yummy!

When was the last time you had egg on your face but ended up scrambling
to share a few bites?

Is that you I see with a plan to hug a cop?  Why not tell him/her you
appreciate their service?

Hummingbird Happiness ~ Mom Marvels at the Minis!

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Did you ever wake up, get the coffee on, and hear your little voice telling you,
“I am happy!”

No reason. Nothing to analyze. Nothing special going on. Just a smile pops on your
face for no reason. A calm sitting into yourself. Aware. Life is good. It’s all good.

What would you do after your sublime feeling of oneness with the world?

If you’ve read my other blogs, you know what I did. I paused to think of Mom and
her angel caregivers, Cathy and Bill.

Mom spent yesterday watching baby hummingbirds, unsteady on their mini-magic
wings. Each took a turn to perch, taking their time with succulent slurps.

With her own hungry hawk eyes focused on her mission, Mom is a patient,
vigilant explorer. Suctioned to her window and on posts nearby, her candy
red feeders are her constant summer joy.

Can you think a better way to pass the day?

Jack up your strengths and ask them to play!

My Son-In-Law, Brad Vick, Man of the Year 2011

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Do you have kids, grand kids, or nieces and nephews who have knocked your socks
off making you proud?

I tease my son-in-law, Brad Vick, married to our daughter, Jackie,
pictured above with son Charlie and daughter Hallie, that he’s my
favorite son-in-law. He is our only one, but every time we get together,
I have to say it at least once. I adore him, his dry wit and humor always
sparking a rise out of me. He lives and emulates positive psychology.

He’s at the top of my “men I respect” list.

He wouldn’t tell you about his recent honor, but I am bustin’ my britches to tell
you about Brad’s dedication to humanity and his super accomplishment.
He has won the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society 2011 Man of the year award.
He’s a man who translated tragedies, the loss of his dad and brother to cancer,
into meaning and hope.

Congratulations, Brad. I know your dad and brother, exquisite men, too, are
smiling down from heaven. They passed the torch to you, and you fired up
so many people to contribute to saving lives. If you want to read about Brad’s
award you will find the entire article, in all its glory, written below.

How about you?  What can you do to make a difference?

THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY ANNOUNCES
2011 MAN & WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Local Leaders to Raise over $180,000 to Fight Blood Cancers

June 17, 2011- The Minnesota Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
(LLS) is pleased to announce the Man & Woman of the Year. The winning candidates
were Brad Vick and Michelle Jaeger.

Brad Vick, a Wealth Management Advisor with Northwestern Mutual Wealth
Management – Bohannon Group, won the title of Man of the Year by raising
$52,000 for LLS. Brad accepted his nomination to honor his late brother Tom
Vick, who lost his battle with acute lymphocytic leukemia in 2004.  While he was
being treated, Tom met many children who were battling cancer.  It was his wish
to find a cure, so little kids would not have to go through treatment ever again.

Michelle Jaeger, an Executive Director with Medco Health Solutions won the title of
Woman of the Year by raising $37,000 for LLS.  Michelle decided to take part in this
campaign because she wanted to give back to patients and families battling blood cancers.
She also wanted to help celebrate the five-year remission mark of her friend Scott Gilyard,
and to honor the memory of another friend’s mother.

The winners were announced at a Grand Finale at the Sofitel in Minneapolis.
Together, with twelve other candidates raised a grand total of $180,000 to
advance the mission of LLS: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and
myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

As the Man & Woman of the Year, Brad Vick and Michelle Jaeger will be pictured
with the Boy & Girl of the year in twenty Metro Transit bus advertisements which
will run for the month of September. Most importantly, all of the candidates’ hard
work, generosity and passion for the cause have helped fund life-saving cancer
research, and has made a difference in the lives of blood cancer patients everywhere.

“The Man & Woman of the Year program is a great way for candidates to network
with other influential people in their communities while also helping to bring hope
to thousands of blood cancer patients,” said Murray Schmidt, the Minnesota Chapter’s
executive director. “Candidates get to showcase their fundraising and community
outreach skills as well as their humanitarianism.”

It’s Never Too Late to Appreciate

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

If you stop and reflect on who is a person who has helped you move
forward in your career, whose face pops up? Who fills up your gratitude balloon?

In coaching I often ask clients these questions. I ask them to write a letter to
or visit this person and express their gratitude. It is time to put my money
where my mouth is.

I was coaching a young man for the first time the other day, and instantaneously
I felt an immediate positive connection. After the call ended, I sat down with
myself to ponder my positivity. My sensorium snapped to attention. I got it! This
client’s melodic, velvet vocal chords reminded me of the best radio/TV/ media
producer on the planet, Jon Quick, Indianapolis, IN.

Humble Jon wouldn’t tell you, but for years when he was a top dog at EMMIS
radio corp, before he pioneered his own ABSOLUTEMAX! public relations, media,
and branding company, and his talent developing Q Consulting Guys companies,
he was #1 in his radio market.

Jon took my midget talent, sweetly busted my chops producing me, and elevated
me from local radio to a Chicago-based nationally syndicated radio show. This
was before everyone and his brother was doing Internet radio. Not that I am
knocking that, the more the merrier!

We have shared thousands of emails and calls. Jon is still at the top of my
cherished best male friends list; a kind, generous, creative genius. We still “share”
a different flavor coffee every Sunday morning. It doesn’t matter we’ve never met
in person. We know, trust, and delight each other.

Jon is a media marketing star, but I admire most, Jon, the man. His integrity,
compassion, and humor shine. He boosted my career in countless ways, and
better yet, we had fun, and still do.

If it weren’t for Jon’s motivational writing wisdom, I know I would never have
written my new book, “Photo Adventures in Cuba ~ Unlock Your Power of Positivity.”

So take this brand, Jon…

Tattoo an A+ on your forehead. Tell them Judy did it in your sleep! I would if I
could. You are a gem of a man whose prisms of positivity propelled me to learn
more than I would have ever dreamed! I am and will be forever grateful to you.

Can you feel my joy? I should have thanked Jon sooner, but I am glad I did now.
It’s never too late to celebrate a person who helped you take the curve that
changed your life. “Advice that’s nice”. Thank you, Jon! Whose life will you change
today by telling them they mattered?

And if you need a go to guy to advance your career, let your fingers joyfully hit the
Internet and find Jon:
