Grammy Gratitude

When was a time you felt so grateful you could lift your hands
to the heavens and thank the universe?

That’s how I feel everyday after I get off the phone with Mom.

Many of you kind friends have emailed me asking how Mom is doing.
I will tell you, even though her days are challenging, and her legs seem
to have a passive mind of their own, Mom tells me, “Never give up!”

Acceptance is Mom’s new mantra.
She tells me she is learning to deal with life one day at a time
What a lady! Don’t you hope you will still be learning at 92?

This was the day after hospitalization when she returned to her beloved
Heritage Assisted Living in Milford, DE.
Mom was so happy to plop down in her lift chair.
Her favorite past time? Savoring her art photos.

I was singing the ”Hallelujah Chorus”!
Amen, persevering, optimistic, and kind Mom!

Is that you I hear counting your blessings?

Zebras and Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

Ever have one of those jaw-slacking days when the world was filled with wonder?

Yesterday was one of mine. Self-regulation hit home.
I needed to practice what I preach as a coach.
It was time to put the fork in the hay and take a break.
Like cream rising to the top, I needed some joyful relaxation into my soul.

I was thinking to myself that lately my life had been a zoo.
It was time to put what I really wanted into action.

Until recently, I hadn’t realized Puerto Vallarta had a zoo.
And it just happens to be down the road from us.
The scenic drive was a floral feast for the eyes; sweetening the fun.

This zany zebra was patient, persistent, and stood there prepared for
his carrot and bread treat delivery. Down the hatch happiness!
I loved the up-close and personal family feel for the zoo.
Purchased a bag of food and got ready for animal gratitude and sloppy kisses!
Unreal fun!

I always did adore zebras and giraffes,
but the baby Bengal tiger cubs stole my heart.

Is your curiosity strength licking its lips?
Remember that old tune, “Hold that tiger…Dah da dah…Hold that tiger!”
Teasing is part of your humor strength, right? Stay tuned…
(Hint…Tigers shed!)

Packers Win and Coaches Create Fun ~ International Coaching Week

PACKERS WIN THE SUPER BOWL!

What a great way to celebrate International Coaches Week!
Tenacity, courage, teamwork, leadership, optimism, connectedness…
I bet you could notice every strength in action when you look at teams.

Football players and coaches all want the same thing: To win in the game of life.
Both help you find the plays that help you score.

Curious about the photos?

The first is me getting ready to take off in a Red Baron biplane in Sedona, AZ
after a Mentor Coach conference a couple years ago. What a thrill!
Coaches help you fly higher than you may have thought you could.
Get a coach and go for it!

The second photo symbolizes my Dr. Ben Dean’s Mentor Coach Community.
Support and caring, coaches empower you to be daring. These generously kind,
energetic and loving Mentor Coach Trainers continue to guide me
to be the best coach I can be. Deep bows of gratitude to them.
In zig-zag order, Ann-Marie McKelvey, (me), Kim Kirmmse-Toth,
Kevyn Malloy, and Jan Hill.
Gayle Scroggs missed the photo, but she was there in heart and spirit.

So who is on your support team? Do you regularly connect with them?

Is that you I hear tapping on your keyboard?

Or were you clapping for the Packers?

Buckle up your Economy Blues ~ Rev Up Gratitude

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

How has the economy busted your budget?

Got you pissy instead of positive?

My husband, Ken, said we still need to buckle up financially. I was lamenting about the state of the world and then I opened the mail. In one day, our insurance denied previously covered claims, another insurance company refused a long-term care policy, and Mom’s pharmacy bill indicated her meds co-pays have increased. I went to the grocery store and paid $200 for 3 bags of groceries and supplies. Huh?!

OK! You can gripe and so can I, but it won’t change a blame thing!
The only we can change is our ATTITUDE about our life.
Here’s an easy, fun, positive psychology strategy that works:

Do the opposite of what you just did!

I complained, OK griped big time about the mail. Then I stopped dead in my tracks. “LOOK FOR THE GOOD!” I reminded myself. The opposite of what my beleaguered brain wanted to do. What strength tool did I use?

GRATITUDE!

I began my list:
- Ken and I were happy.
- We had health insurance when many do not.
- Mom is alive and able to pay her co-pays.
- The kids and grand kids are all well.
- I get to coach from Puerto Vallarta in winters.
- I have terrific friends.

You get my drift. What you focus on EXPANDS.

How can you blow up your balloon of gratitude?
Don’t blow too hard, now. You want it to inflate, not pop.
‘Course you never were full of hot air, so I ain’t worrying!

Mom’s Holiday Doggie Delight

My dear mom, Louise, at her assisted living apartment in Milford, Delaware, sends her love and thanks to all who have sent her holiday blessings. Mom was delighted by a lovely surprise when I snagged Goldie, the Praying Dog, to pay her a private visit.
