7 Tips to Happy New Year Happiness

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Are you the champagne guzzlin’, midnight hot-lipped kisser,
“HAPPY NEW YEAR” celebrator? Or maybe you love to sit quietly
at home and watch the NY Time Square folks in all their revelry.
Or do you sleep through the commotion thinking New Year’s is just another day?

I like to ponder the past a bit and then think how I want the
next year to be. Some years I make an intention to focus on a theme,
like “Less,” “Freedom,” Peace,” or “Forgiveness.”  Other years I have a
very specific plan and goal. Last year’s was “Get your book published!”
Talk about the need to line up all my character strengths to pull that one off!
Huge thanks to all you faithful supporters who bought my book and let me
know how much you are enjoying it. Click here to see the listing on Amazon!

How can you know, absolutely know, you will be happier this year? Here’s how:

1. Look for all the positives about yourself. If you get stuck, ask several trusted
friends what is positively unique about you. Their responses will blow you away.
Life satisfaction is a largely a result of whether you feel good about who you are.
You need to confidently know you are going in the direction of growth and
achievement. Use your strengths to stand up to adversity. Look challenges
in the eye and yell, “Bring it on!”

2. Be courageous. Know you are the master of your universe and the skilled
captain of your ship. Make an action plan and “ACT, NOT REACT” with negativity
when life seems to be rotating off its axis. You are in control. Plan and follow
through with specific goals. Be accountable!

3. Reach out to others.  Extroverted folks have an easier time in life and report
they are happier than introverts. That said, introverts can learn to be more
social, more hopeful and more upbeat if they seek out supportive relationships.
Remember, I said you need to be courageous! Even a smile opens doors.

4. Own an optimistic attitude. This is key to you becoming happier. Negativity
breeds like fruit flies! Keep those negative nuisance thoughts in their petri dish!
Be hopeful yet realistic. Watch your confidence soar. Look for the good.
You will find it if you focus on it.

5. Power up positive social relationships. This is major and two-pronged:
social support and emotional intimacy. If you have loyal and understanding
friends with whom you confide (if they add humor, all the better!), you will
report greater subjective well-being. Deep emotional relationships add
sparkle and clarity to your life. Coping with life’s problems and feeling better
about yourself is easier when you have others who emotionally care and share.

6. Vision, purpose, and meaning. Huge concepts! Add spirituality and get double
your pleasure happiness. This takes soul-searching and ongoing awareness to
achieve balance. Acknowledge what you want in life and why. Make a plan to
master your wishes. Be in the service of others as well as maintaining your own
vision. It’s OK to be off balance! That’s called NORMAL! Plant new seeds of learning
and watch your happiness grow. Be mindful of what you want in life. Keep moving
forward, even when life’s head winds make your journey challenging.

7. Negative internal dialogue? Let go of it!  When you hear your inner critic,
that nasty little part of yourself that puts you down, banish it to the sidelines.
Accept and hug it if you want, but let it know YOU are in charge of your own life.
You are a winner. Listen to your positivity. Remember to embrace your strengths.

If this were a quiz, how would you score? How about using these tips as your
New Year plan or goal? You are wonderful, creative, and have within yourself
every blame thing you need to bask in well-being and happiness.

Do you suffer from Excuse Abuse? 7 Tips To Get It Done and No Whine with Your Cheese!

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Is “Yes, But” or “If Only” your middle name?

Got too much on your procrastination plate, Bubba?

Is the phrase “personal responsibility” an oxymoron? An impossible dream?

Time to optimize optimism and happily ingest intestinal fortitude. Only you
can get to your designated finish line.

Save your sanity! Ignite these 7 tips and learn how to tolerate, calm, and accept
yourself as you accomplish with bliss! Don’t even think about making excuses as
you read these. I will hunt you down, and we WILL have one hot-to-trot coaching
session! Have fun and get it done! Here’s how:

1. Stop, take a deep breath in your nose, then breathe out your mouth with a
big sigh! Cut yourself some slack. Make a specific, realistic, time sensitive, able
to do, prioritized “to do” goal list. Feel your relief as you take a few more deep
breaths. One small step, then another. You will get there.

2. LOL. You heard me right. When you find yourself off track, laugh out loud.
Read a joke, watch a funny video, or go on line and Google laughing clubs.
Taking a break makes you work/play more effectively.

3. Honestly ask yourself, “What am I really avoiding? Greet your angst. Hug it.
Love it. Help it get back on track. Reward yourself when you accomplish even
a small goal win. Sing! Dance! Pat yourself on the back and grin!

4. Give thanks! Become a gratitude junkie. Thank yourself for getting things
done. Look for what you DO accomplish, not at what you don’t. Team with a
partner who can celebrate with you.

5. Ditch Stuck-it is? Think of folks who have it worse off than you. You will not
need to look far. Tell yourself, “I CAN!” and believe it.

6. Don’t bite off more than you can chew and criticize yourself. Make a list at
the end of the day of what you accomplished. Be realistic. Tomorrow is another
day. Remind yourself every day. Put the NIKE Swoosh somewhere you can
see it. Tell yourself,”Just do it!”

7. Personal responsibility is about loving yourself. Being enough. Not there?
Get some help! Call a friend or get a coach. You are everything you need, but
perhaps you lost where you put it? Write your top 5 signature strengths on funky
paper and plaster it everywhere.

Full-time Employment and Flying High!

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

My old photo is from 2009, but I couldn’t resist! When is the last time
you were flying this high? I was at the Mentor Coach Conference in Sedona,
when my dream to fly in a bi-plane took wing! Scary as hell, but I did it.

The “youngins” photo was taken a few days ago. I asked son
Sean to have someone snap a fun photo of his buddies.
He came through! Here’s the fun back story.

A recent phone call from my son Sean’s girlfriend,
Heidi, brought back the same emotion. Full throttle joy.
She was touching base to see how Ken’s eye surgery went
and how my Mom was faring. Sweet! Next, Sean’s friends,
Thad and Zak grabbed the phone and filled me in with how their
lives were panning out. Tenacious Thad has a technical job he
enjoys with a new challenge every day.

Zak is banking an upcoming job interview will strike a vane of
full time employment gold. “It’s not my dream job, but it’s a job,
and I can watch out for another.” Great critical thinking!

That’s when I had an epiphany. I “saw” Zak speaking in front of many people,
like a Tony Robbins moment. His velvet voice rang true. Clear as a bell.
The job he is interviewing for has nothing to do with speaking. I asked him
what his college major had been. Yep,public speaking and communications.
I “know” he will be doing just that one of these days. Strangely, I then visioned
a panther stalking his prey. I told Zak (these kids already know I’m weird!)
piped up with, “Patience and Pounce…Eureka! That’s me!”

Can you feel the hope and optimism in these “kids” ages 23-31?
Resilience, perseverance, and gratitude blipping on their radar screens.
I remember not long ago when Sean called us thrilled to have scored a
new job with full medical and dental benefits as well as a stellar
retirement program. Music to our ears.

What opportunity is flying past you?
What might happen if you went full throttle and flew with a new idea?
Hey…There’s room in the jump seat. Wanna go flying with me?
Nothing like great friends. Sharing is caring.

Seredipity Do Dah ~ Something Even Better Comes Along

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Did you ever read a quote and serendipitous synchronicity arose?
Almost like magic, someone sprinkles fairy dust. You pause.
Wham! Instantaneously, you see a way to use that quote.

I had just read this quote: “On the way to what you planned to happen,
something even better came along.” Janice Endique

What had I planned? To finish cleaning out my freezer.
It unceremonious bit the dust depositing water all over the floor.
My trusty hook rug sucked up the mess, but all the contents bit the dust.
What a stinky fuss. I was on my way to the freezer, when I stopped to
gaze into my garden. I had to muster up courage to tackle the freezer.
I needed a spoonful of beauty.

And there she was! I tiny mama bird was doing her darnest to ram
a too-long twig into my new sunny yellow-roofed birdhouse.
Fearlessly, the pounded away, over and over. For some bizarre reason,
she inspired me to sing the music to “Camp Town Races.”

“Birdie, Birdie bang the hole,
Do-dah, do-dah,
Birdie Birdie you got soul,
Oh do-dah day!

Bang bang away,
Bang bang away,
You never gave up, you have such pluck,
Your babies will thank you some day!”

And the birdie?
Tender tenacious mite, she finally got it right!
Who said the twig was too big?
How about you? What quote has left you singing a song?
What frivolous fun play will you take advantage of today?

Grammy’s Double Lick of Love

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Can you imagine a photo of yourself feeling at your best?

Wonder what you’d say if you were 92 years old?

Do you hope pets will surround you? Or maybe 2-legged family you adore?

You see it here. Joy, Love, Life satisfaction. Mom at her best self.

As she said this morning, “This is the perfect morning!”
Five dogs came into her room and vied for lap or lick time.
Sweethearts, Kiki in white, and Mugsy in brown.
Both rescue dogs who hit the jackpot when Cathy strolled into the shelter.
The other three are too big for Mom’s lap, but after Mom pets, they settle for a rest.

I don’t know about you, but I pray there will be someone to take immaculate care
of me the way Cathy and Bill gift Mom with a luminous life. Despite her huge health
challenges, meaning, pleasure, and loving engagement are parked right along side
Mom’s wheelchair.

This is my optimistic Mom; gratitude with a doggy grin.

Was that you I saw grabbing your keys to head to the shelter?
Tell ‘em Grammy Louise sent you!
