Did You Ever Save A Life?

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

What have you always wanted to do?
Why have you have kept it in a drawer?
What opportunity knocks?

Meet Heidi, my son Sean’s adorable girlfriend.
They weren’t hooked up last fall when she stepped up
to the plate and let her leadership, kindness, and
quick action planning take wing.

Nor had she ever para-sailed, a life’s dream.

Last fall, Heidi saved Sean’s life after he was attacked in Milwaukee.
Cold-cocked and looking dead, (We saw the tape and it was enough
to make me puke!) when he finally awoke, Heidi insisted he go to
the ER. He objected, thinking he was OK, but his inappropriate
verbalizations and her sharp instincts ruled. Harnessing her critical
thinking, she cajoled him to go to the ER.

I will never forget that day. It was about 4:30am.
Shocked, I had received an emergency call from Delaware that I
had better get there lickity-split. Mom was in the ER with
life-threatening blood clots. I was calling the airport praying for
a flight to DE when 5 minutes later the Milwaukee ER called to say
Sean had a brain bleed and other injuries and we better get there ASAP.
OMG! It’s a 75 minute drive in good traffic. Gulp and prayers.

Look for the good. Understanding clients were canceled on the drive.
Ken is a good driver. Both were alive, BUT I was a wreck. Mom had
someone with her at the hospital and things were looking better for her.
No way could I tell her about Sean, so I had to make an excuse until
I could arrange to fly to DE.

Thank God both recovered. Huge gratitude.

This photo of Heidi flying high in Puerto Valletta means the world to me,
even if she did tease me for insisting she get the most colorful parachute.
I told her she deserved color. I wanted the cheerful artist in her to savor
this photo forever.

How do you ever express your gratitude to the person who saved your son’s life?
I will never be able to, but at least I had the sheer joy of watching her have fun.
Healthy now, smiling Sean was sitting nearby with Ken, taking it all in.

Maybe you’ve saved someone’s life and maybe you haven’t, but just by being you,
you are special. You deserve to make your special dream come true, too. Go for it!

What if you pretended all the color’s in Heidi’s parachute were strengths.
Why not paint the stripes with strengths words and make a plan and
commit to use at least a day?

Or pretend it is you in the parka-sail harness.
What strengths would be flying with you?
OK if you want to go tandem, I’ll fly with you.
Tandem tootsies!
Sharing is caring.

Inspiration ~ Who Is Yours?

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Who is the person who has been your greatest inspiration?
You know who mine is…MOM!

Here’ one definition of ”inspiration” from World English Dictionary:

1. Stimulation or arousal of the mind, feelings, etc,
to special or unusual activity or creativity

2. The state or quality of being so stimulated or aroused

3. Someone or something that causes this state

4. An idea or action resulting from such a state

5. The act or process of inhaling; breathing in

Here’s another: Collins English Dictionary – Complete & Unabridged 10th Edition:
Inspiration: dated c.1300, “immediate influence of God or a god,” especially that
under which the holy books were written; “inspire, inflame, blow into,” and
“to breathe” See spirit.

Did you notice? What is Mom holding?
Hint: It’s in her Find-A-Word book. Did you see the word?
She was beginning to work on the Inspiration page when I snapped this shot!
Don’t you love serendipitous synchronicity?

Thank you for always inspiring me to keep writing these blogs.
Mom is amazed at your fantastic feedback, too.
A win win is wonderful!

Curious About Cuban Respect?

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

When you travel, do you visit and reverently appreciate
the somber beauty of the local cemetery?

Do you admire the artistry?
Do you stop and think about the stories of those buried there?
Or think about your own death?

Havana’s stunningly beautiful, immaculately manicured cemetery.
Necropolis Cristobal Colon, rivaled any cemetery I have ever visited.
Magnificent mausoleums, some palatial, are a marvel of architectural grace.
Acres of intricate spires, cherubs, and sculptures were as far as my eye could see.
Anyone would appreciate this lovely resting place.

My appreciation of art and excellence strength was pristinely piqued.
The stories of love and dedication our guide told us, I will never forget.

In my new book, “Photo Adventures in Cuba ~ Unlock Your Power of Positivity,”
you will see  more incredible photos. You will also hear a true story about how
I embarrassed the heck out of myself while I was there. Oh, did I ever!

I end this post with a respectful apology to Havana and
with gratitude for the guide who forgave my unintended foible.

See more Cuban beauty and hear more soulful stories.

Mom’s Surprise Joke on Me!

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Did you ever think you had your ducks lined up, ahead of time,
only to have one duck quack off to the side?

I was so proud of myself.
Mom’s cool caregiver, Cathy, has a July birthday. Mom’s is in September.
Scanning the garden shows and my favorite wild and whacky lawn supply stores,
I bought several new critters to grace Mom’s outside garden vistas.
A huge package full of fun.

I emailed Cathy and teased her to keep her mitts off the goods and hide the package
until I got there to visit Mom mid July. A-OK! I had it organized.

Isn’t it funny how life intervenes?
Cathy is at home 99% of the time…But you guessed it.
When the package arrived, Cathy was running errands.
Mom saw the package and asked Cathy’s husband Bill’s to open it!
Mom had a field day and was tickled by all the surprises.
She had no idea about my plan nor did Bill.

Cathy called me laughing her butt off.
Everyone was enjoying the lawn buddies, and no one was keeping
score on whose gift was whose. So what if Mom had her 93rd birthday
two months early and Cathy two weeks?

When is the last time you thought you crossed all your “t’s” and dotted all
your “i’s”? When the universe decided to one-up you, did you laugh, cry or sigh?

In the photo, you see Mom on the speaker phone with me
happily eyeballing her new stash. Thanks to Cathy’s photographs,
I was able to enjoy the laughs. A win-win with an early spin.

It is better to be early than late, right?
But if someone tells me how many days it is till Christmas…
Well, let’s just say my kindness strength will get a run for its money!
How about you? Are you an early bird? Or do you fly by the seat of your pants?
Who cares as long as you dance!
