My Best Friend’s Take: Dreams Really Do Come True

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Do you have a best friend who is always the wind beneath your wings?
I do. Her name is Cheryl Lynn Nash. We grew up two houses apart in Harrington, DE.
Below is what she wrote to me about Mom’s move to Cathy and Bill’s home.
Gulps of gratitude. I am incredibly blessed.

Dearest Judy,
I know. I understand. It’s in my paragraph below.
It’s how we truly feel, you and me. It’s real and it’s true.
Feel free to share it in any capacity, because it is about your
Momma’s joy & happiness & well being! Praise the Lord!!!

Just when we thought Louise was in the last Chapter of her life,
one of acceptance & resolve, the final page…Low and behold, a miracle,
we find her story is not yet finished.  More Chapters to come because your Mom,
and Cathy and Bill coming together. At 92 she is still playing ball and on a new team!
How many people ever get to experience this?!

This couldn’t have happened to a better woman.
This is her reward for how she’s lived her life, the kind, sweet, gentle woman
she has always been. Who knew? I am so happy she has Cathy & Bill.
I can only hope when you and I are in our final days, we have the ability to
experience one last hurrah. That’s what they are giving to her.

Cathy is the one that dreamed this dream. Now it’s a reality.
Your Mom is getting stars in her crown for this one!  It’s a win, win!
She’s a natural and her devotion is so real…The kind that cannot be faked.
Louise has a new peace and gobs of smiles left now all because of this.
It’s like we’ve dragged her back into life again. Everyday is a new day for her.
She loves life again! She just never knows how it’s going to go, but she knows
she is loved and protected and will be happy. What joy!!!
Love, Cheryl

Dearest Cheryl,
Soon it will be our turn to sit in a rocking chair. My fervent hope is we will
be rocking along together positively recounting, “Remember when…”
Love you to the rafters always, Judy

Who’s your best pal? Have you told them lately that you love them?
Is that you I hear galloping away?

Radio Positive Psychology Coaching Tips Inspire

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Have you ever been on the radio? Or do you listen to talk radio?
It is my pleasure to do both. We’ve all gone out separate ways now,
but here is a blast from WCUB’s past: Radio host, Kyle Kristofer VanLanduyt,
Dr. Stacey Soeldner, me, and radio owner, Lee Davis. We rocked if I do say so
myself! The best was we all laughed our butts off.

I have often been blessed with grateful, generous folks who zip me a sweet email,
post kind kudos on social media, or even give me a call like a man did after one of
my three recent radio shows I appeared on.

I often wonder, “What was their greatest take-away pearl of wisdom?”  Talk about
an answer to my prayer. There is nothing I enjoy more than knowing positive
psychology coaching struck a happy, love-of-learning chord with a valued listener.

The email below came from an adorable listener, “Pond Girl:”

Judy,
I was having a very, very frustrating afternoon so I took a break and treated myself
by listening to your show with Sallie Felton, “A Fresh New Start.”
Well it was a treat to listen to!
Here are some of the highlights of the show that really hit me personally:
-Speak up
-Strength spotting
-Don’t give up
-Your life is yours
-What are you good at?
-Strengths drive talents and natural ability
-3 good things to 1 bad (Fredrickson’s Positivity ratio)
-One new thing you saw in a day to savor
-Appreciate beauty
-Exploring
-Be ok with uncertainty
There were a lot of other things that I found very interesting, but I could not write
that fast! I resolve that I will listen to show again.
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with others.
Love you! ~ Pond Girl

Memorial Day Salute ~ General Creighton Abrams

© 2011 Dr. Judy Krings

Do you stop, pause, and count your blessings on Memorial Day?

Do you know people who have served in the military to keep you free?

My dad was in World War II, but he never talked about it.
I grew up in Delaware near Dover Air Force base, so military
presence was part of my everyday life. Those C5′s, largest transport
planes on the planet, are incredible. This photo was taken in Dover
when I took Mom to see the spring flowers. Don’t you love serendipity?

I worked for the Army in Germany during the Vietnam era.
With Captain Robert Echols, my CEO, and Master Sgt. Juan Garcia,
we created the Army’s first Community Drug and Alcohol Assistance Center.
We had no chain of command and answered to Europe’s only 2-star General Munson.

I was the civilian head of all the dedicated drug therapists and had a caseload of 5
units to serve myself. We busted our butts to help guys get off of drugs and alcohol
after they came back from Nam. I loved every minute of it. If it hadn’t been my
passionate goal to get my Ph.D., I would have enlisted.
I loved our teamwork and sense of mission.

The Army offered me the opportunity for perhaps the biggest honor of my life.
At 23, and I was too young to appreciate it, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff, General Creighton Abrams, asked me my opinions re: our program and
what else he could do to help our troops. I was scared at first as I was the only
civilian he requested. It was “batter up” with bases full!

After we began to talk for what was supposed to be a short meeting,
I swear we animatedly buzzed on for a couple hours. He listened with incredible
focus
. I was so naive, I rattled away as if we were best friends.
That’s when he gave me the gift…

He handed me his card and asked meto come to Washington to work for him!
I professed my humble gratitude, but grad school trumped all else.
I tried to contact him a few years ago to express my appreciation,
but he had passed. I will honor him forever.

My life has been great, but his generous offer, I still appreciate!

Did you ever wonder if you had taken an opportunity, what
would have shifted in your life?

Who would you salute today?

Want an instant smile?

Think of those you love.

This one is for you, my precious Mom.

Was that the sound of a speeding bullet whizzing by?

Nah…It was grateful you darting off to say, “Love you!” to those you adore.
